Message I basically detonated my motor. Boost controller was off, my wastegates are set at around 14 to 15 lbs, which I will not set that high again. Outside temp. was about 75 deg.I had also installed my cats because I had done a 1600 mile trip the week before. I had my car tune for 91 & C16 gas. The car was on the 91 setting. Basically under load I was hitting 15 lbs of boost which might be ok for short bust but I was in 4th gear winding it out. Yes I was pushing my Z hard at the time and the outcome was six sparkplugs with the electrodes burn off and the exhaust valve had a pie shaped piece broken off of it (Manley Valves) which caused some damaged to the cylinder wall of the no. 5 cylinder. I don't know how it even ran as bad as the spark plugs looked. I set the cruise control and drove some 20 more miles. I didn't know my engine was even damaged untill I started to slow down and noticed it was running rough. I stopped and look my motor over, it wasn't making any abnormal noises or leaking oil so I drove it the rest of the way home not boosting or putting a heavy load on my motor. Yes my motor was tuned to run on 15 lbs of boost but the dyno is a controlled eviroinment and in real life there can be things that can change that such as bad gas, etc. Their's more that I can add but you can not attribute the damage to my motor to it being a built motor. I actually drove it over a 100 miles to get back home. I thought I would post this to just clear up a few things and maybe it will be of help to to someone else. And yes I know what detonation sounds like!
